JUVÉDERM® XC is an FDA-approved dermal filler developed by Allergan, Inc., designed to temporarily smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds. Intended for individuals over the age of 21, this enhanced formula contains lidocaine, a local anesthetic, to help improve comfort during treatment compared to the original JUVÉDERM formulation.
Formulated as a smooth gel, JUVÉDERM XC restores volume and hydration to the skin, effectively softening lines and enhancing facial contours. It is made from hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring sugar in the body that delivers nutrients, maintains moisture, and acts as a cushioning agent. With age and sun exposure, HA levels in the skin decline, leading to volume loss and the development of wrinkles. JUVÉDERM XC is especially effective at treating nasolabial folds—the lines running from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth.

The JUVÉDERM XC treatment typically takes about 15 minutes and is performed in a medical office. A fine needle is used to inject the gel just beneath the skin in targeted areas, adding volume and filling in wrinkles and folds. Since the product contains lidocaine, most patients experience minimal discomfort, though a topical anesthetic may still be applied prior to injection if desired. After the procedure, the treated area may be gently massaged by the provider to ensure even distribution.
Patients can return to normal activities immediately after treatment. However, for the first 24 hours, it’s recommended to avoid intense physical activity, alcohol, and prolonged sun or heat exposure to reduce the risk of swelling or other side effects.
Results of JUVÉDERM® XC Injectable Gel
Results from JUVÉDERM XC are visible immediately after treatment. Mild swelling or bruising may occur, which typically resolves within a few days and can be minimized with the application of ice. The effects generally last between 6 to 9 months and may extend up to a year for some patients. According to Allergan, results vary from person to person, and maintenance treatments or “touch-ups” may be necessary to sustain optimal correction over time.
