Restylane® Injectable Gel Overview
Restylane® is an FDA-approved dermal filler designed to smooth facial lines and restore volume to the skin. It contains hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring substance in the body that helps maintain skin elasticity and hydration. As HA levels decrease with age, skin can lose firmness and begin to wrinkle. Restylane gel works by plumping the skin beneath lines and wrinkles, reducing their appearance and creating a smoother, more youthful look.

Restylane is commonly used to treat:
- Glabellar lines (lines between the eyebrows)
- Nasolabial folds (lines from the nose to the corners of the mouth)
- Lips (for enhancement and definition in patients aged 21 and older)
According to the manufacturer, Medicis, results can last up to six months before the HA is naturally absorbed by the body.
Benefits of Restylane Injectable Gel
Restylane effectively softens facial wrinkles and folds by restoring volume under the skin. For lip treatments, it adds fullness and definition, creating a more youthful and balanced appearance.
Advantages of Restylane Injectable Gel
Unlike some other HA-based fillers, Restylane is free from animal-derived ingredients, eliminating the need for allergy testing prior to treatment. Injections are quick—typically completed in less than 30 minutes in a dermatologist’s office—and require minimal to no downtime.
Side Effects of Restylane Injectable Gel
Common side effects include temporary swelling, redness, tenderness, bruising, and pain at the injection site. These typically resolve within one week. Though generally safe, there is a small risk of infection, bleeding, or allergic reaction.
